Hampton and Richmond Borough

Heading for a relegation battle in February, Hampton and Richmond Borough decided a managerial change was necessary a month earlier. Gary McCann departed, and Mel Gwinnett was appointed as boss, but the new man couldn’t buy a win in his first six games in charge. The Beavers rallied and swam to safety showing excellent form throughout March in particular. After a heavy defeat against the league champions, Hampton and Richmond Borough won eight of their next eleven fixtures beating the sides down at the bottom such as Dulwich Hamlet, Cheshunt, Dover Athletic and Hungerford Town. Keeping their cool during those six pointers including victory over Weymouth in April lifted the Middlesex club away from the battle at the wrong end of the table with plenty of time to spare.

Manager – Mike Gwinnett

A first full season as manager is ahead of Gwinnett who was appointed by Hampton and Richmond Borough back in January. He left his coaching role at Barnet to have a shot as a boss with the Beavers. A former Goalkeeper, Gwinnett worked closely with Paul Tisdale at Exeter City when he began his coaching career with the Grecians. He followed Tisdale to Milton Keynes Dons on to Bristol Rovers as football operations manager and later Stevenage. After his coaching role with the Bees, he became head of football operations with Hampton and Richmond Borough before moving into the Beveree hotseat.
